O R G / Metrocard Vending Machine


Lead interaction design of touchscreen interface for the machines that will replace attendants as the way to buy Metrocards for riding New York City subways. The machines were designed with Industrial Designer Masamichi Udagawa while employed by IDEO.

A driving criteria for the design was the Americans with Disabilities Act. The interface uses large, high contrast graphics and a clearly articulated sequence to make a cohesive experience for a diverse public. The bluntness of the graphic design ensured that final machines resemble the design intent.
